New year = new habits and there's nothing better than a brisk winter walk along the Northern coast! Here in the North East, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to which path to take, but not to worry, I’ve done my research and narrowed down the best of the best. These are the top North East coastal walks you NEED to go on.
I absolutely love this pick, it’s fair to say I have a soft-spot for Bamburgh castle, but how could I not?! Steeped in history and beauty the castle is never one to miss when visiting up North and the surrounding golden sand beaches only make it better. The walk from the castle to Seahouses stretches around 3.4 miles and should take just over an hour to complete. At the end of the trail, you’ll be greeted with the Northumberland village of Seahouses. There you can take a much needed break in a cafe nearby.
Cresswell is one of my favourite beaches in the North East, accompanied by a quaint little village, it’s the definition of peaceful. The walk from Cresswell Beach to Druridge Bay is around 2.6 miles and should take less than an hour to complete. During the walk, you’ll be surrounded by stunning views of the North East Coast and once you reach Druridge Bay, you can take a trip to Ladyburn lake and, if you have any kids, play in the nearby park.
How can I write a list all about the best coastal walks and not include our very own! Take a walk all the way from Tynemouth Priory and Castle all the way up to St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay. The walk should take about 90 minutes but it is one-hundred percent worth it. Surrounded by beautiful beaches and the sound of crashing waves, it’s sure to be a pleasurable walk. And don’t forget to drop into Spanish City on your way past for some light shopping and a coffee!
If your home is closer to Sunderland, you might want to take a walk along the Leas and around the Souter lighthouse. The Leas is two and a half miles of magnesian limestone cliffs, beautiful scenery surrounded by coastal grassland. The name 'Lea' means an area of farmland allowed to revert back to grassland and coastal formations, such as Marsden Rock and Trow Rocks, can be enjoyed from a cliff top walk.
Durham Heritage Coast has emerged from its industrial past to an area worthy of Heritage Coast status with one of the finest coastlines in England. The coastal path runs across 11 miles which makes this the most challenging walk of the list, however when surrounded by stunning, dramatic views and a path that leads to quaint little villages - it’s worth it.

We'll all never forget that feeling in March 2020 where it felt that the world was closing in around us.
In the mix of the worries about a global pandemic we had absolutely no idea if our business that we loved so much, and put our hearts and souls, into would survive. It was such a worrying feeling and at this stage we really had no plan.
Then out of the blue one of our amazing customers got in touch with us, concerned about the survival of small indie businesses they suggested that we produced a print in the vein of the WW2 "Keep Calm and Carry On" ethos but with a Whitley Bay angle...
