Meet the artist: Christopher Cook

April 15, 2022 2 min read

It's always a joy to catch up with our fabulous artists and find out more about what inspires them.  We recently sat down with Christopher Cook to find out more about his amazing artwork...
Tell us about yourself and a fun fact
My name is Christopher Cook and I am 31 years old, originating and still residing in North Shields, North Tyneside as are my very close knit family.  You could say that one is a hybrid of different interests, whether it be ancient history, culture, arts, films, games and overall trivia, not forgetting the odd bit of music in there too. I am proud to be from the North East and find great joy in visiting the coast and parts of Northumberland with friends, family members or just myself.

What made you get into the world of artwork and creativity?
I have been passionate about art since a really young age. It was not unusual to see me drawing on the floor with numerous art pads, pencils and pens. Most of the time producing cartoon characters. Since then it has developed into studying art and design at GCSE, and then onto graphic design at A-level, Diploma and Degree. Alongside those I have studied media studies. I am absorbed by creative expression!
Where do you get your inspiration from when creating new artwork?
It may be a theme or scenario I am presented, but often it is an interest I have at one particular time or a way of representing my own inner emotions. I love to investigate backstories and hidden facts that could influence or be included in the design process.
What has been your favourite project to work on?
I could not say, all are either distinctly different or have demanded varied challenges. But I enjoy getting deeply involved in all.
Small indie business shout out! Please name your fave three small indie businesses
  1. For the Love of the North (of course)
  2. Fish Quay Hub (who support the homeless)
  3. Mr Woods (friendly staff)

Recently FTLOTN had the opportunity to employ a kickstarter. The kickstart scheme matches business with young people who, due to the pandemic have been out of work after finishing their education.  We worked with Laura as our very first kickstart employee and we're thrilled to say at the end of the placement Laura agreed to work with us on a more permanent basis.  Read on to find out a bit more about Laura and her fabulous design talents...

Even back in our pre FTLOTN lives Whitby was always one of our favourite go to places for an escape. It's situated in a gorgeous part of the North Yorkshire coastline and for ourselves as non-drivers it's very accessible. And so with a hiatus of a couple of years we boarded the train and headed off on our travels...
