Spanish City is an iconic building on the gorgeous Whitley Bay seafront with its magnificent white dome standing tall and proud. The building is the home to our For the Love of the North shop and we are so proud to be there overlooking our gorgeous coastline. The Spanish City shop is right at the very heart of our For the Love of the North adventure and is the place where we welcome our wonderful community, brainstorm new ideas, meet new artists and creatives, chat with customers and hold events and workshops.
The Spanish City site has been a part of the Whitley Bay skyline since 1910, it was initially opened as a dance hall, then a shopping plaza and cinema and eventually a funfair until its closure in the early 2000s. In 2018 Spanish City opened its doors once more, restored to its former glory offering fabulous dining experiences, mouth-watering fish and chips and the most delicious cakes. We are so proud to be within this jewel in the crown of the North East coast.
The large windows of the shop front allow us to watch the sun as it rises, sets and falls throughout the year, it’s a view we never tire of. It’s lovely to warmly welcome customers old and new and be able to share the amazing work of such talented artists from around the region. We feel so lucky to have a store embedded in a piece of architecture that is such an important part of Whitley Bay’s heritage. There’s a sense of pride like no other in our region and it’s a joy to celebrate it.
