Our guide to Tynemouth

Tynemouth is one of the North East’s most popular seaside villages. With it’s beautiful beaches, historic Priory and Castle, fab small independent shops and eateries, it really is a very special place.

Five things to do in Tynemouth:

Visit Tynemouth Priory and Castle

The ruins of the Priory date from around 1090 with the walls and castle around it being built a couple of centuries later. More recent history saw it act as a coastal fortification during the First and Second World War’s. You can find out all about its long history when you visit.

With spectacular views out to sea and over the mouth of the River Tyne, pack a picnic and enjoy some quality time at this gorgeous English Heritage site.

Take a walk along Longsands

Longsands beach lives up to its name with a beautiful stretch of sand. Enjoy a walk from either the Tynemouth or Cullercoats end.  A warming hot chocolate makes a welcome reward on a winters day as the beach boasts a café at either end.

You can now also enjoy a Scandinavian wooden style sauna experience on the beach. Switch off and reset the mind.

Enjoy delicious seafood at Riley’s Fish Shack

Located on King Edwards Bay, a trip to Riley’s really is a very special experience.  With a varied menu of seasonal fresh fish and shellfish cooked over a wood fire, it really is a taste of the region.

With sustainability and seasonality at the heart of its ethos, Riley’s champions the traditional fishing industry.
