Kate Stuart is a practising artist, craftswoman and writer, juggling solo motherhood, home education and environmental activism. Based in the North East of England, Kate enjoys gardening, walking in nature, daydreaming and stitching patchwork quilts. Kate dislikes icy Monday mornings, the news, the shuffle facility, and liquorice, but loves to paint, knit socks and mend broken things. Kate lives with her two daughters, their guinea pigs, a handful of chickens, and 2 cats. Kate writes about her creative practise, life as a home educator, and sustainability, in a weekly article on Substack, as The Phoenix Green.
This painting is acrylic on canvas, and began life in 1998 as an exploration of music synesthesia for her degree show. It was reimagined and reanchored with a connection to home, on the evening of Wednesday 4th September 2024.
