Back To School: How to Shop Locally This Term

September 05, 2021 2 min read

Can we believe that it’s back to school season already?! This year is just flying by. It’s been a while since I’ve experienced the back to school season personally, and we all have different feelings when reminiscing about past school days but one thing I remember loving is shopping for new stationery and supplies!

As a child, I instantly headed to the big chains in order to restock my backpack. However as an adult, I've grown to appreciate what it means to shop locally and sustainably. We, at For The Love of The North, are always the biggest advocates for sustainable shopping - since local businesses are always run with passion and money spent at local businesses tends to go straight back into the community, it would be weird not to! We could go on and on about supporting local creatives as clearly it’s something we’re extremely passionate about...but you get the idea!

One thing I always got really excited for in school, and to be honest I still do now, is a brand new notebook! Call me nerdy but there’s something about writing on fresh clean pages that brings me some kind of bliss. We stock so many beautiful notebooks here, my favourite however has to be our classic Hyem Sweet Hyem Notebooks - ‘hyem’ is the classic Geordie word for ‘home’ and as we all know, there’s no place like home so why not take a piece of it with you to the classroom.

But if you're like me and stationery really is your thing, did you know we actually have a sister company - The Stationery Society? A fabulous subscription box packed full of exclusive stationery! Each month we collaborate with a range of British artists based around one theme to create something utterly unique. In fact, we’ve just announced this month’s stationery box theme: Autumn! Perfect for those back to school vibes. If you’re looking to stock your backpack with some completely unique stationery that's bound to make your peers jealous, you can sign up for your very own box subscription now via The Stationery Society website!

Now, I know I keep mentioning backpacks, but being honest I’ve always been more of a tote bag kinda girl! I rock my For The Love of The North Tote Bag every day without fail. All of our tote bags are fair trade and made with organic cotton & vegan inks to be as planet-friendly as possible. Not only are they better for the environment, they also look pretty good! Everything you need (and want) can fit into a simple tote bag.

Thinking back on school days, they don't always hold the fondest memories for some people but one thing everyone can agree on is that shopping for brand new supplies was always exciting so be sure to shop with style!

Check out the rest of our site and be sure to enjoy this brand new academic year.
