To continue our look at some of our most favourite Small Indie Businesses we're heading down to one of our most special parts of the world, the North Yorkshire coast to the beautiful village of Robin Hoods Bay. With a rich heritage of smuggling and the fishing industry you can really feel that history around you. It's also home to the fabulous 'Berties of Bay' who celebrate the traditional nautical clothing worn by seafarers of time gone by.
The shop is located in such a picture postcard position and we both could happily have seen ourselves sporting their famous 'Gansey' jumpers and Boat Neck Smocks. Their brand really does embrace the traditions of the past, reviving those wonderful nautical styles. It's a hugely sustainable business too. This is clothing that's made to last and be your friend for many years to come. It's the ultimate antidote to disposable fast fashion and their whole line of clothing has a real story to it.

It's very apt for our next small indie that it's a journey across from the east to west and another of our very favourite places, the Lake District. Here we are bound for the town of Keswick and just off it's famous market place you will find the gorgeously stocked 'Conquer Lake District' which is a recently new edition to Packhorse Court located just off the Market Place.
Conquer describes itself it's ethos as possessing a 'passion for design and the great outdoors and have built our business around the concept of giving back to the landscape.' For each purchase of Conquer goods 5% of the profits are donated to their charitable partners and our amazing and vital National Parks. The shop really does make such a connection with the Lake District and it's wonderful collection of hand made and sustainable products from patches to pin badges, stationery to stickers are a glorious celebration of the great outdoors.

It's been so long since we had a trip down to London and for ourselves we love nothing more than exploring parts of the city we've not visited before and discovering their hidden delights.
Staying in North London between Finsbury Park and Highbury we enjoyed a tootle along Blackstock Road and came across a real gem, Bookbar. It has the most wonderful philosophy at it's heart of which it's owner Chrissy says "BookBar is a fun, warm, welcoming space for people to discover and socialise around books. It's a place to come and hang out, like your favourite wine bar or your kitchen table."
Well we certainly felt that ethos and it was just glorious sitting with a half carafe of wine taking in the selection of books around us and soaking up the creative atmosphere. We enjoyed a lovely chat with Chrissy and her passion for books and what she is trying to achieve with Bookbar, bringing people together through books absolutely shines through.
